The Process

From Idea to Art

  • Laptop displaying a 3D model of a dragon on a desk with artistic materials.

    1 | Concept & Design

We begin with an idea, either yours or from our curated collection. For custom pieces, we work with you on form, scale, and intent before anything moves forward.

  • Display of 3D printing materials and samples on a dark surface with 'Material Matters' branding.

    2 | Material Selection

Every object starts with the right material. From matte to shiny finishes, we select filaments that balance strength, texture, and visual depth.

  • 3D printer in operation with a printed object on a dark background

Using high-quality Bambu Lab printer, each piece is printed with accuracy and consistency, where every layer contributes to the final form.

The Story

Our Little Something

It started with a simple idea, to introduce our two and a half year old son to the joy of making, and to show him that imagination can become something real, right in front of his eyes.

We brought home a 3D printer, not to start a business, but to show him that creativity isn’t just something you admire, it’s something you can build. That ideas can take shape, layer by layer.

What began as small experiments turned into objects. When I shared a Sisyphus piece on my Instagram story, it sparked conversations and our first order. Around the same time, my husband's workplace needed an enclosure for an IoT sensor, and trusted us to print it. And just like that, something personal became something more.

Today, Between the Layers is a family-led studio. My husband, my son, and I.
He still watches every print with the same curiosity that started it all.

At its core, this is about nurturing imagination early, and creating objects with care, intention, and meaning.

We’re simply building, one layer at a time.
